Content Left Column:

Following a short thematic introduction, we will meet different experts and activists to learn about the current situation on the ground in Sudan and hear different analyses and prognoses on where the country might be headed. Throughout the whole event, the aspect of solidarity with the protesters in Sudan and possibilities of support from international bodies and civil society alike will be a major focus.

Specifically, we will learn from think tank founder and political analyst Kholood Khair about the origins of the current divisions within the political landscape in Sudan on the one hand, as well as some prognoses on how the situation might further develop.

Human rights lawyer Mohamed Osman will then add to that, by focusing mainly on structural issues within the security and justice sector, the consequent lack of accountability that was partially fostered by the international community and prospects of reform and change.

Content Right Column:

Afterwards, blogger and artist Ahmed Isamaldin will be introducing us to the New Democratic proposal of the resistance committees in Sudan. Taking into account postcolonial perspectives, he will focus mainly on urban and rural divisions and the rentier state as obstacles to this proposal before identifying some potentials for solidarity.

Following this perspective as well, political scientist and activist Sara Abbas will be closing off the event by speaking about Germany and the EU‘s geopolitical interests in Sudan, how these have shaped their response to the revolution, and what, in contrast, an anti-colonial solidarity that affirms the demands of social movements in the country and region could look like.

The event will be held in English and will take place via Zoom but will also be livestreamed on Facebook. More information on that can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/events/914096492642178
