Why Levantine?

Learning a language is always about engaging with the community and getting a true sense of what that language represents to locals, and how they interact on a daily basis. That’s why we chose for our course the Levantine dialect, one of the six main varieties of colloquial Arabic spoken across the Arab world, as it is the main vernacular spoken in Syria, Lebanon, Palestine and Jordan. Compared to the Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), used more formally, Levantine dialect is easier to pronounce and understand, widely spoken, and more accessible, being adopted by most of the art and cultural movements in the Arab world - we will teach you a language you can use with your friends, not the one required to do your PhD!

What should you expect?

With the support of a custom-designed Arabic language booklet by your teacher Lilas, you'll expand your ability to talk about your family, routine, job, clothes, weather, and much more. Learning stays fun and engaging with in-class activities, quiz games, videos, and songs to support every step of your progress.

What are the learning objectives?

This course focuses on helping you use the Arabic you’ve learned so far to carry out short, practical conversations in real-life settings. Through vocabulary building, guided dialogues, and structured grammar practice, you'll become more comfortable talking about your personal life, asking for directions, handling simple shopping tasks, and participating in classroom situations. You will also gain a clearer understanding of key sentence structures that will support your continued progress in Arabic.

By the end of this ten-class course, you will be able to:

  • Use and conjugate common verbs in the present tense, including daily routine actions.
  • Form and use the dual in Arabic correctly.

Content Right Column:
