Why Levantine?

Learning a language is always about engaging with the community and getting a true sense of what that language represents to locals, and how they interact on a daily basis. That’s why we chose for our course the Levantine dialect, one of the six main varieties of colloquial Arabic spoken across the Arab world, as it is the main vernacular spoken in Syria, Lebanon, Palestine and Jordan. Compared to the Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), used more formally, Levantine dialect is easier to pronounce and understand, widely spoken, and more accessible, being adopted by most of the art and cultural movements in the Arab world - we will teach you a language you can use with your friends, not the one required to do your PhD!

What should you expect?

With the support of a custom-designed Arabic language booklet by your teacher Lilas, you’ll explore relatable and useful themes like weather, clothing, personal preferences, pets, and more. In addition, previously learned content will be regularly integrated throughout the course to keep your foundation strong and fresh. As always, class activities, role plays, visuals, and games will make your learning process dynamic and fun.

What are the learning objectives?

This course helps you link grammar, vocabulary, and real-life context to express yourself with greater fluency and depth. Through structured practice and guided conversation, you'll enhance both your accuracy and confidence in everyday interactions.

By the end of this ten-class course, you will be able to:

  • Talk about the weather and describe what you're wearing, using key verbs.
  • Use clothing and color vocabulary to describe personal preferences and style.

Content Right Column:

  • Handle clothing-related shopping conversations: trying on clothes, asking about prices, paying, and negotiating.
  • Express comparisons and preferences using basic forms of التفضيل (comparatives).
  • Use the present continuous tense to talk about actions happening right now.
  • Practice and distinguish between, present, present continuous and future tenses in different real-life scenarios.
  • Use direct and indirect object pronouns accurately within spoken and written sentences.
